As 6G networks and quantum computing emerge alongside rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, security threats and cyberattacks are growing more sophisticated and evolving at an unprecedented rate.

Against this backdrop, the International Conference on Mobile Internet Security (MobiSec) has become a vital forum for researchers and engineers worldwide to address security challenges in mobile internet, telecommunications, and convergence applications. Since its inaugural event in Taichung, Taiwan, in July 2016, the conference has grown to its 8th edition.

MobiSec 2024 took place from December 17 to 19 in Sapporo, Japan, hosted by the Korea Institute of Information Security and Cryptology (KIISC). The event was co-organized by the KIISC Research Group on 6G Security and the Cryptography & Information Security Institute at Kookmin University.

The conference also received technical sponsorship from Japan’s IEICE Technical Committee on Information and Communication System Security (ICSS) and the JSAI Special Interest Group on Safety and Security (JSAI-SIG-SEC). Additionally, the IEICE Technical Committee on Information Security (IEICE ISEC), one of Japan’s premier security research organizations, participated as a key collaborator.

The 2024 conference welcomed 387 participants in both online and in-person formats, showcasing 93 paper presentations and 77 posters from authors representing 18 countries. A standout feature was the Special Session on Secure and Cognitive Continuum (SECON 2024), led by European researchers, which fostered dynamic discussions on cutting-edge advancements in mobile communication security.

The event also featured two workshops: the 2024 MobiSec Workshop and the International Workshop on Intelligent Software Engineering (ISE 2024), during which a total of 14 papers were presented.

MobiSec 2024 featured keynote speeches by Professor Antonio Skarmeta from the University of Murcia, Spain, a renowned expert in mobile communication security, and Professor Koji Nakao, a distinguished security scholar from Japan. Additionally, the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Professor Junji Shikata of Yokohama National University in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the field of security.

The success of MobiSec 2024 was attributed to the dedication of its organizing committee, including Honorary Chairs Professors Okyeon Yi and Kouichi Sakurai, Steering Chairs Professors Fang-Yie Leu and Ilsun You, General Chairs Professors Kiwook Sohn and Dr. Goichiro Hanaoka, and Program Chairs Professors Hwan-kuk Kim, Dr. Seong-han Shin, and Professor Alessio Merlo.

As MobiSec 2024 comes to a close, it remains a vital platform for advancing cutting-edge research and fostering collaboration in the ever-evolving field of mobile internet security.
