An international wireless and mobile security conference was held in South Korea for the first time, attracting approximately 210 experts from around the world.

On Monday, the Association for Computing Machinery Conference on Security and Privacy in Wireless and Mobile Networks (ACM WiSec) commenced its three-day event.

The ACM, the world’s largest educational and scientific computing society, hosts over 170 events globally through its special interest groups. ACM WiSec is a premier conference sponsored by the ACM and its Special Interest Group on Security, Audit, and Control (SIGSAC). This year’s event, marking the 17th meeting, was organized by the Korea Institute of Information Security & Cryptology (KIISC).

On the first day, experts covered a wide range of topics. Jean-Pierre Seifert, Professor of Security in Telecommunications at Berlin’s Technology University, delivered the keynote speech on the impact of post-quantum cryptography on telecommunication security.

In the first vision talk session, a new feature of this year’s event designed to share insights from world-renowned academics on future challenges, Mauro Conti, a professor at the University of Padua, discussed various security and privacy issues related to electronic vehicles and their batteries.

According to ACM WiSec, the event received a total of 144 research papers from around the world, an 18% increase from the previous year. Out of these submissions, 29 papers were selected for presentation, covering topics such as the Internet of Things (IoT), cellular communication, authentication, and machine learning security.

“The ACM WiSec is a specialized conference with a focus on wireless and mobile security,” explained General Co-chair Kim Yongdae, a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). “As wireless networks become ubiquitous, we have taken a step forward in addressing security challenges in automobiles and drones as well.”
