Lawmakers from South Korea, the United Kingdom, and Japan will gather in London this week to discuss coordinated counter measures against North Korea’s illicit cyber activities and human rights violations.
According to the International Parliamentarians’ Coalition for Asian Human Rights (IPCAHR) on Monday, the International Parliamentarians’ Coalition for North Korean Refugees and Human Rights (IPCNKR) will host the 19th general meeting with the U.K.’s all-party parliamentary group on North Korea (APPG NK) in the Palace of Westminster on April 20.
The event consists of three sessions including discussions on North Korea’s human rights violations and cyber threats. This is the first time for the IPCNKR to address the country’s illicit cyber activities at an annual general meeting.
In a press release on Monday, Ha Tae-keung, a South Korean lawmaker and the chairman of IPCAHR and co-chair of IPCNKR, stated the reason behind addressing the new agenda.
“It is crucial to enhance cooperation among members of the international community as North Korea continues to heighten their illicit cyber activities,” said Ha. “With the U.K.’s Members of Parliament and government officials, we will focus on discussing the establishment of international organization and norms to combat North Korea’s cyber operation.”
