New designation addresses urgent need for holistic strategies in managing cyber risks and provides an adaptable framework to stay ahead of emerging risks.

MALVERN, Pa.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Cyber risks pose a substantial threat to organizations worldwide, with 87% of C-level executives admitting their companies are not adequately prepared for a cyberattack, according to a 2024 Munich RE Survey*. In response to this critical gap, The Institutes Designations developed the Associate in Cyber Risk Management™ (ACRM ™), designed to equip professionals with the essential skills needed to mitigate cyber threats effectively.

As one of the only programs on the market dedicated specifically to cyber risk management, the ACRM designation provides a comprehensive and adaptable framework to help individuals and organizations build resilience against the growing threat of cyber risks. The program will help professionals identify exposures, recommend appropriate cyber coverage options, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders to develop a robust, holistic strategy against cyber threats.

“As cyber risks continue to evolve and pose an increasing threat to businesses of all sizes, there’s an urgent need for skilled professionals who can understand, anticipate, and manage these risks,” said Adam Carmichael, CPCU, President of The Institutes Knowledge Group. “The Associate in Cyber Risk Management designation is our response to this demand, providing a path for risk management and insurance professionals to gain the skills and credibility necessary to navigate this complex landscape and protect their organizations and clients against potentially catastrophic outcomes.”

The ACRM designation is ideal for experienced underwriters, risk managers, agents, brokers, and other professionals who want to stay at the forefront of this rapidly evolving field. The program, through two new cyber-specific courses from The Institutes Knowledge Group, as well as its ARM 400: Risks in an Evolving World and Ethics 311: Ethical Decision Making in Risk and Insurance courses, covers a broad range of critical topics beyond the most prevalent cyberattack threats, including safeguarding personal data, securing software, and complying with complex regulations. It also provides a long-term framework for managing evolving risks, ensuring that professionals are prepared to tackle both current and emerging cyber challenges.

“The ACRM designation caters to the growing need for expertise in managing cyber risks and helps negate the perception that cyber risk is exclusively an IT problem,” added Carmichael. “We believe this program will not only help professionals safeguard their organizations, but also position them as thought leaders in an area of growing importance.”

The launch of the Associate in Cyber Risk Management designation reflects The Institutes’ commitment to educating, elevating, and connecting professionals interested in risk management and insurance. The new credential will enable professionals to stay at the forefront of emerging trends with the knowledge and tools to lead in an increasingly digital world.
