Final 24 Teams from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Mexico Will Compete Head-to-Head via GOLFZON’s Network Play Function
CHANTILLY, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–GOLFZON, the global leader in golf simulator technology, announced the start of the round-robin divisional stage of GOLFZON Tour Season 2, a competitive simulator league open to golfers of all skill levels around the world. The final 24 teams have been sorted into four regional divisions, where they will compete in head-to-head matches conducted via GOLFZON’s Network Play. At the conclusion of round-robin play, the top two teams from each division will advance to the final stage of the competition: a single-elimination bracket that will determine the Season 2 champion.
Round-robin matches will take place Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM local time from September 16 through October 14. Teams from 16 states, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Mexico will compete on legendary courses, including Harbour Town, Bethpage Black, Spyglass Hill, Tobacco Road, and Aviara Golf Club via GOLFZON’s real-time Network Play, with players able to see opponents’ scores, ball positions, and live standings on their screens.
“It has been incredibly rewarding to see the growth of the GOLFZON Tour in season two,” said Dean Schneider, Director, GOLFZON Competitions. “This year, our goal was to expand the size of the competition and build a global competitive platform that showcases GOLFZON’s immersive indoor golf experience. The round-robin divisional stage delivers on that vision by allowing teams from around the world to compete against one another in real-time.”
Season 2 of the GOLFZON Tour drew 72 teams competing across 27 states and five countries for a $300,000 purse, a significant expansion from Season 1, which included 12 teams across nine states and four countries for a $150,000 purse.
Twenty-two teams advanced through the qualifying stage of the competition, with Tee Times (Rochester Hills, MI) and last year’s champions, Golf Envy (Covina, CA), leading the way. GOLFZON extended two sponsor exemptions to Down the Line Sportscenter (Annandale, VA) and The Post (New York, NY) to round out the final 24.
Tee Times and Golf Envy continue their excellent play and growing rivalry, having faced off in the finals last year. Members from each team won this year’s individual qualifiers as Michael Ordona from Golf Envy shot -14 on Forest Dunes in June and Brandon Barrows from Tee Times posted July’s top score of -17 at The Ocean Course at Hokuala. Each competitor won $10,000.
Following the conclusion of the round-robin divisional stage, the top eight teams will advance to a single-elimination bracket beginning on October 28. The semi-finals will be staged on November 8 at the new GOLFZON Social in Oak Brook, IL, outside of Chicago. The Championship will then be held on November 22 at GOLFZON’s West Coast Showroom in Los Angeles.
