TEL AVIV, Israel–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Corsight AI is proud to announce it has become the first facial recognition technology company to achieve ISO 42001 certification, a critical international standard emphasizing explainability, transparency, and accountability in artificial intelligence systems. This certification reflects Corsight AI’s commitment to meeting the highest standards of responsible AI practices while addressing public and regulatory concerns surrounding facial recognition technology.

Facial recognition has come under scrutiny globally due to concerns about transparency and accountability. ISO 42001, set to be fully adopted in 2025, mandates that organizations using AI systems must be able to explain how algorithms reach their conclusions. This ensures greater transparency, accountability, and compliance with evolving regulations. After the standard takes effect, companies using or purchasing solutions without ISO 42001 certification may face significant regulatory challenges in operating such technologies.

Prof. Yaniskiy Ravid, Research Fellow at Yale Law School and Visiting Prof. at Fordham Law School, highlighted the importance of this milestone: “AI models, including facial recognition algorithms, often operate as a ‘black box,’ where even the scientists who develop them may not fully understand how or why the AI reached a particular conclusion. Explainability is essential for AI models to provide a human-understandable explanation of how an algorithm arrives at a decision. In the context of facial recognition, this involves clarifying how the algorithm determines whether the faces in two images are identical or different.” Prof. Ravid added: “Explainability is also emphasized in key regulatory frameworks, including NIST guidelines and the upcoming ISO 42001 standard. These standards mandate that any organization using AI must be able to explain how its algorithms reach their conclusions. This step is critical for improving trust among users, policymakers, and the public while addressing fairness and legal compliance.”

Matan Noga, VP of Research and Development at Corsight AI, elaborated on the company’s approach: “With Corsight AI’s unique and patented explainability module, we provide clear, detailed insights into why the system identifies a high match between certain images and a mismatch between others. This is particularly important when using AI-based photo or video analysis as evidence in court. Explainability builds confidence in the technology and ensures compliance with evolving regulations.”

Tony Porter, Corsight AI’s Chief Privacy Officer and former UK Surveillance Camera Commissioner, also underscored the importance of this achievement: “The ISO 42001 certification represents a crucial step forward in addressing the accountability and transparency concerns that have challenged the adoption of facial recognition technology. By achieving this standard, Corsight AI demonstrates its commitment to operating responsibly and setting a new benchmark for the industry.”

Corsight AI partners with law enforcement agencies and commercial companies worldwide, helping them tailor their operations to comply with evolving local regulations. With the landscape of AI regulation continuously shifting, Corsight AI ensures its clients are equipped to operate responsibly and effectively in any jurisdiction.
