History

The Readable was founded in Pangyo, South Korea, in May 2022. Since then, our news articles have reached a global audience, with the majority of our readership based in the United States. Our team of reporters is regularly invited to prominent international cybersecurity conferences and frequently has the opportunity to engage with leading experts in the field. This global reach and expert interaction enhance the depth and relevance of our coverage, ensuring we provide valuable insights to our readers.

We hold editorial independence as a fundamental value of exceptional journalism, believing that it is essential for maintaining the integrity and credibility of each news article. Revenue Sources

The South Korea-based data intelligence company S2W funds The Readable in its mission to help create a safer and more secure world. Both S2W and The Readable believe that enhancing the public’s understanding of cybersecurity is essential to achieving this goal.

Our Team

Dain Oh

Dain Oh is a distinguished journalist based in South Korea, recognized for her exceptional contributions to the field. As the founder and editor-in-chief of The Readable, she has demonstrated her expertise in leading media outlets to success. Prior to establishing The Readable, Dain was a journalist for The Electronic Times, a prestigious IT newspaper in Korea. During her tenure, she extensively covered the cybersecurity industry, delivering groundbreaking reports. Her work included exclusive stories, such as the revelation of incident response information sharing by the National Intelligence Service. These accomplishments led to her receiving the Journalist of the Year Award in 2021 by the Korea Institute of Information Security and Cryptology, a well-deserved accolade bestowed upon her through a unanimous decision. Dain has been invited to speak at several global conferences, including the APEC Women in STEM Principles and Actions, which was funded by the U.S. State Department. Additionally, she is an active member of the Asian American Journalists Association, further exhibiting her commitment to journalism.

Minkyung Shin

Minkyung Shin serves as a reporting intern for The Readable, where she has channeled her passion for cybersecurity news. Her journey began at Dankook University in Korea, where she pursued studies in Journalism and Software Convergence Contents. During her university studies, Shin led a team project that developed an Augmented Reality (AR) Face Tracking Service application and authored a paper titled ‘AR Face Tracking Based on Service Content’. In 2023, she expanded her experiences by interning at the Toronto-based non-profit organization, TCM, planning support programs for underprivileged children in the city. Through her diverse experiences, Shin has cultivated a broad perspective on cybersecurity. She is committed to delivering accurate and insightful cybersecurity news to readers worldwide.

Sylvie Truong

Sylvie Truong is a regular contributor to The Readable. Her interest in cybersecurity began in 2015, while working as a biomedical research assistant at Columbia University’s Irving Medical Center. She worked in the Molecular Imaging and Neuropathology Division, analyzing data using various software programs. Due to her experience there, she developed an interest in cybersecurity and implementing better practices to protect personal data, valuable research information, and more. Sylvie holds a master’s degree in neuroscience and education from Columbia University.

Hongeun Im

Hongeun Im is a reporting intern for The Readable. Motivated by her aspirations in cybersecurity and aided by the language skills she honed while living in the United Kingdom, Im aims to write about security issues affecting the Korean Peninsula and lead more people to become interested in cybersecurity. She attends Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Her interest in computer science led her to participate in the World Friends Korea volunteer program, where she taught Python at the Digital Government Center in Laos and at Al-Balqa Applied University in Jordan.

With over 20 years in education and publishing, his expertise lies in enhancing document quality and readability. Before joining The Readable, Arthur contributed to various publishers of educational materials, including item writing for standardized testing. He serves as an adjunct professor at Sogang University, enriching educational standards through curriculum design and in teaching various English rhetoric and communication courses. Holding master’s degrees in applied linguistics and English literature, Arthur’s expertise bridges the gap between intricate cybersecurity topics and the magazine’s diverse audience. His commitment to clear, impactful writing makes every article a tool for achieving greater understanding in the digital age.

Sangseon Kim, from left, Areum Hwang, and Daeun Lee are the creative forces behind the design team at The Readable. Collaborating closely with the editorial staff on a daily basis, these three designers strive to make the experience of reading cybersecurity news more gratifying. Their exceptional design skills have not gone unnoticed, having been acknowledged in numerous competitions, most notably receiving an award from Hyundai Engineering & Construction in 2023. Thanks to their talent, readers of The Readable’s website and magazines are treated to compelling and enjoyable visuals that immediately convey the essence of the stories, a feature unique to the publication.
