AUSTIN, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#AI–ABBYY has established AI Labs across the United States, Hungary and India to accelerate development of purpose-built AI for intelligent document processing and process automation. The teams of innovators are creating transformative solutions that redefine industry standards for reliable AI and enterprise security and compliance, capitalizing on new market possibilities driven by agentic AI and the need for more developer-friendly experiences.

Sanjay Nichani, Vice President, AI & Computer Vision who leads the ABBYY AI Labs reporting to Patrick “PJ” Jean, CTO/CPO of ABBYY, commented, “Our proprietary datasets, AI platform and model research and development combined with our deep domain knowledge create foundational intellectual property that will significantly enhance our core solutions and enable expansion into adjacent enterprise applications. We’re building upon decades of leadership in OCR, machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing, while extending innovations in AI with our industry expertise. This integrated approach powers next-generation multimodal models to deliver more robust, consistent outcomes that transform business processes.”

IDC estimates that the intelligent process automation market (IPA) will reach $102 billion by 20281 with OCR and intelligent document processing (IDP) being the fastest growing segments. The new document AI and process intelligence technologies and solutions coming out of the ABBYY AI Labs will enable the company to maintain its leadership position and aggressively compete in the IPA market with new solutions expected to be released during the second and third quarters of 2025.

Furthermore, a recent SlashData survey concluded that more than half of developers who use AI (53%) are using it to add AI functionality to applications through third-party APIs and open-source models, or to create AI models by using data to customize, build, train, or fine-tune AI models2.

“The developer experience is a crucial aspect of our product strategy,” added Nick Hyatt, Vice President, Engineering R&D, reporting to PJ. “The underlying IP and technology Sanjay is building from the AI Labs is the future to improving how businesses can leverage AI and LLMs within their organization to fast-track new applications and capabilities. Our teams look forward to making next-generation ABBYY AI easier to consume with modern APIs and developer tools.”

Concluded PJ, “All too often we hear from customers that they are missing ROI targets and needing to adjust expectations due to hallucinations, unpredictability, and costly models. Our focus at the AI Labs is predictability, compliance, and effectiveness, making it easier for developers to consume document AI and deliver value to their organizations faster.”
