New study highlights why technology adoption stalls and what businesses can do to fix it

DALLAS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Despite businesses investing heavily in AI, automation and digital platforms, many employees remain resistant to workplace technology, especially as generational differences shape how workers perceive and engage with new tools. Yooz, a cloud-based purchase-to-pay (P2P) automation provider, reveals in its latest research that 1 in 7 employees have outright refused to use a workplace tool, and 39% admit to being reluctant adopters. These findings highlight a critical disconnect between innovation and execution, and an opportunity for companies to address it.

The 2025 Yooz Workplace Tech Resistance report, conducted by the third-party survey platform Pollfish, surveyed 500 full-time U.S. professionals across multiple industries to explore the factors driving technology resistance and adoption in the workplace.

Key findings include:

  • Tech adoption is often disruptive: 51% of employees say workplace tech rollouts create internal chaos rather than improving efficiency.
  • AI adoption divides generations: 40% find AI tools helpful but unreliable, while 16% avoid them altogether. Younger employees are more positive—35% of Gen Z “love” AI tools, compared to just 13% of Boomers.
  • Lack of training slows adoption: 52% receive only basic training, while 20% get little to no guidance. Nearly 48% say better training would improve adoption.
  • Some industries are more resistant: Government (46%), construction (42%), and manufacturing (28%) are the least receptive to workplace tech changes.
  • Younger workers want intuitive tools: 39% of employees say tools should require minimal training, and Gen Z cites ease of use as the top predictor of success.
  • Employees want more say in tech decisions: 36% believe adoption would improve if they had input, and 28% say leadership needs to embrace change faster to set the tone for adoption.

Despite technology’s promise of efficiency, many employees find new tools can create more frustration than productivity due to clunky interfaces, unexpected glitches and lack of proper onboarding. However, this doesn’t mean employees are against technology. They want intuitive, well-integrated tools with proper support.

The report outlines key strategies to improve adoption and ensure technology works for employees, not against them:

  • Strengthen training programs to ensure employees feel supported, not overwhelmed.
  • Prioritize ease of use so tools integrate seamlessly into daily workflows.
  • Foster collaboration by involving employees in tech decisions early on.
  • Encourage leadership buy-in to set the tone for a culture of adoption.

“Successful technology adoption isn’t just about rolling out new tools; it’s about ensuring employees feel equipped and empowered to use them,” said Laurent Charpentier, CEO at Yooz. “Companies that invest in training and intuitive design don’t just implement technology—they create an environment where innovation thrives.”
